Plantation Window Shutters

There are three types of plantation shutters on the market today. The first is the faux wood shutter, Second is the composite shutter and lastly is the wood shutter. Faux wood are made from 100% vinyl. The louver (slats) are 2 1/2" wide or 3 1/2" wide. They are not hollow but made with a revolutionary honeycomb material to provide stability and energy efficiency. Faux wood shutters are made by VinylBilt which is a Hunter Douglas owned company. There are three colors which are white, off white and an almond or tan color. They are very similar to the Hunter Douglas Palm Beach shutter. You can have the tilt bar in the front or hidden in the back with the free and option clearview system. There are three types of frames to choose from. First is the standard Z-Frame, which has a nice lip to go around the edge of the window. The second is the trim frame witch does the same thing but is wider. Typically used for un-square window openings. The last is the L-Frame used for widows with existing trims and for outside mount applications such as doors. Composite shutters are made of a wood and vinyl mixture with a thick poly coating wrapped around the material. The louvers are made in a 2 1/2", 3 1/2" and 4 1/2" louver size for those giant windows. You can also get the hidden tilt bar with these plantation shutters. Frame styles for the shutters are the standard Z-Frame, which is a plain square look, the option deluxe- z-frame that is wider and mainly designed for non-square windows. The last style of frame is the standard L-Frame, which is used for windows with existing trims and outside mount applications. Our wood shutters are made of basswood, which is lighter and takes stains and humidity much better. There have been huge changes in the wood shutter market over the last couple of years. Pricing for American made wood shutters has become so expensive that is it much less expensive to go to out of the country sources.
